1Mountain view through the prayer flags of Kunzum La Pass in India’s high altitude Himalayas.
Kunzum La pass(4590 meters) is the second pass which, after Rohtang La(3979 meters), must be open before you can drive from Manali to Spiti.
The passes open between mid May and Mid June though conditions on Rohtang have been deteriorating year after year due to heavy traffic and overuse by tourists day tripping to the summit (roughly 30,000 people and 8000 vehicles PER DAY).
From Shimla via Reckong Peo on the eastern entrance of Spiti Valley is a better way to go as it is an all weather road, though it requires a bit more paperwork since you pass <20km from the Chinese Tibetan border.

This delightful guesthouse is managed by one of the most experienced guides in Spiti - Mr. Teshi - and his lovely wife. They have a warm and hospitable bed and breakfast (known in spiti as ‘homestay guesthouse’).
Little tip if you are lucky enough to share chai with Mr. Teshi do ask him about his biggest climbs - he has clocked several big 8000m+ climbs in his day with the Indian Army climbing team and has a lot of great stories.
